The last evening of a vacation, a week of leave, a two-day offsite that somehow became four: you already know what the first morning back costs. Most people plan a full day just to dig out. That is a real pain, it is the moment this product was built for, and this page shows you exactly what happens instead.

The first thing you see

Open Unfold Work after days away and you get one catch-up brief covering the whole gap. It leads with what happened, in numbers that are receipts, not warnings:

“Over the last 9 days: 12 handled, your replies closed 2, 4 closed without needing a reply from you, 3 still need you.”

Read that once more. The largest number is the work that is already done. “Closed without needing a reply from you” is the fact no summary tool can offer, because a summary describes the pile; a receipt proves what left it. What still needs you is a short list, not an archaeology project.

What it will never say

The catch-up brief is written under rules we treat as promises, and they are all refusals:

• It never says “welcome back” and never comments on where you were. It reports on the mailbox, not on you.
• It never counts what piled up. No “600 unread”, ever. Numbers are spent on what closed and what needs you, nothing else.
• No unread count sits on anything that asks nothing of you. Awareness is presented without a number on the door.

Why the receipt is trustworthy

• It kept reading the whole time. Watching your mail does not pause when you do.
• It moved nothing and sent nothing. Your mailbox is exactly as your time away left it. Nothing was archived, filed, deleted, or marked read, and nothing goes out unless you press send.
• The routine mail filed itself, receipt attached. Anything that needed nothing from you moved into Worth knowing with a line saying how many went and where, so you can verify the quiet instead of taking it on faith.
• Your time off cost nothing. Deadlines and aging are counted in your working days, the ones you declared, whatever your week looks like. A Sunday to Thursday week is first-class.

If you replied from your phone all week

Answering from Gmail on a beach counts as showing up. You will not get a catch-up brief you do not need; you get the normal daily brief with one line of credit: “Your replies closed 6 of these.” The system reads what your replies actually closed, and says so.

And the heavy morning, back or not

Some mornings the list is simply long, no vacation required. When the list outgrows one sitting, the brief opens with “Start with these 5”: a pacing suggestion in plain type. The full list is always rendered below it, nothing is hidden behind a tap, and nothing anywhere records whether you finished. It is a place to start, never a score.
